Method & Provenance

How the catalog was assembled, checked & corrected

This is a research archive, not a decorative bibliography. Its attributions remain explicit, inspectable and open to correction.

Catalog sources

Records were compiled from WorldCat, USTC and individual library catalogs, with attached catalog PDFs retained as documentary receipts.

Evidence first

Confirmed, documented, attributed, probable and candidate records are kept distinct. A Stella imprint alone is not silently converted into a firm Cocchini claim.

Audit trail

Duplicate, erroneous and rejected records remain documented, but are excluded from the published-work count and hidden in the catalog unless requested.

Editorial rules carried into the site

Individual charts from Dell’Arcano del Mare are discoverable separately, but count as plates within one 1661 publication—not as 137 separate Cocchini works.

The 1666 and 1667 title pages of the Saggi are not double-counted as wholly separate editions.

The three Florence parts of Rinaldini’s Ars analytica are treated as separate publication units while remaining linked as one multipart work.

The Paris 1666 printing of Redi’s Osservazioni intorno alle vipere is displayed only as a clearly labelled substitute until the Florence 1664 Cocchini edition is located.

Excluded from the archive count

Rejected and corrected records

CW-049 · Prove delle conclusioni intorno a’ momenti de’ gravi

WorldCat assigns Cocchini, but the imprint does not name him and the date is well outside the securely documented activity range.

CW-050 · Rappresentazione di tre pellegrini

WorldCat mistakenly assigns Cocchini as author/responsible person; the record is an authority collision.
